Why did you chose an apprenticeship in Farriery?

I always wanted to work with animals, especially horses. My father and uncle are both farriers and I inspired to be like them from a young age. I was lucky enough to travel to yards with them and learn certain aspects of the craft early on.

What is it like to be a farrier apprentice in Ireland?

Tough work but rewarding, no two days are ever the same.

 Favourite part of the job?

Working with animals and traveling all around Ireland.

Forge-work can be tough, as it’s very physical and requires a lot of reputation to get right.

How are you exams doing?

I got on well in all my Phase 2 assessments and I am studying hard to achieve the same results.

What do you do in your spare time?

Farming and socialising with friends.

What is your plan when you’re finished your apprenticeship.
